Local Bodies Minister announces Rs. 300 crore bonanza for Amritsar Municipal Corporation

Amritsar, Feb. 11 (Punjab Post Bureau) –  Making entry into  the maiden general house meeting of the newly formed  PPN1102201801Amritsar Municipal Corporation house, Punjab Minister for Local Bodies Navjot Singh Sidhu announced a Rs. 300 crore bonanza for the Corporation. The Minister, who was among the first in recent years to pay a visit himself in the Corporation House meeting, announced Rs. 102 crores for sewerage for the South, East Amritsar and incomplete JAICA works.

He also announced Rs. 7 for the SL Hitachi Company and Rs. 2 crore for the electricity from Amritsar Improvement Trust. Stressing that their will be no dearth of funds, the Minister said, “This Municipal Corporation will also get around  Rs. 100 crores from the regularization of hotels in the Galliara. ThIs money will come to the Corporation within this year. This scheme of regularization has already been passed,” said the Minister. As the Mayor of Amritsar Karamjit Singh Rintu demanded for additional Rs. 100 crores, the Minister announced that he will bring this Rs. 100 crores as special gift from the Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

The Local Bodies Minister said that money will never be a problem for this House and it is responsibility of all the people here to ensure that money is utilized properly. “I will do whatever possible and request the Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to give Rs. 100 crore to this Corporation as early as possible.” Terming each councillor as voice of 15000 residents of the city, the Minister said that Councillors are root that will lead to development so everyone must rise above party level and work for city in a united manner.

The Minister also promised that within next 3 to four months, the city will witness a 100 percent street lighting. Talking about giving best of facilities to the people, the Minister said that in the coming future, issues such as death and birth certificates, maps and other things will be regularized in the best possible manner. The Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was given a warm welcome by the Councillors, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sonali Giri, said that it is time to pay back to the city and everyone must be committed to perform his or her duty in the best possible manner.

Notably, Navjot Singh Sidhu when he was a Member Parliament had brought Rs. 100 crores for the city during Shawet Malik regime but nothing much happened in the last 5 years due to the tussle between former Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi and former Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora. The city has to pay price for this tussle and the Corporation also had nothing to show. Thankfully now the new combination of Punjab Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and new Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu can be a fortune changer for the city with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh at the helm of affairs.
