Sri Guru Ram Das University 0f Health Sciences organized National Conference – 2018

Surgeons from different parts of Country Performed Free Surgeries

Amritsar, Dec. 12 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences, Sri Amritsar hoisted the PUNJ1212201801prestigious Padma Bhushan Prof. (Dr.) L.H. Hiranandani, AOI Midterm Conference 2018. The conference was graced by the presence of Dr. Robert Vincent, Chief Otologist, Clinique DU Docteur Jean Caussee (Caussee Ear Clinic, Beziers, France) as an Honorable Chief Guest and Dr. Arun Banik, Director Ali Yavar Jung Institute For Hearing And Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai as Guest of Honor.

Dr. Vincent overwhelmed by seeing the participation of delegates and congratulated the institute for his endeavoring efforts in upliftment of patient care and medical education. He also shared his lifetime spiritual experience at the pious Golden Temple. He promised his full support in any help required by this University to train their students in Ear Surgery.

Dr. Arun Banik, Director AYJNISHD also graced the occasion and emphasized that more efforts are required to rehabilitate the patients suffering with deafness. He said that the initiative “SOUND” by this University was very impressive and he hopes it to grow by leaps and bounds.

Dr. A.P Singh said that cure of deafness is something that is very close to the heart of this University and regular camps have been organized for the same. He also assured that SGPC will always be at forefront in providing best medical care and education through SGRD University of Health Sciences.

Dr. A.P Singh, Dean said this was 3 days national level event with over 400 doctors all over India coming to the holy city for learning and exchange of knowledge. The event demonstrated live surgeries of Ear, Nose and Throat in about 30 patients totally free of cost performed by top most surgeons of the country. There were lectures and panels on latest surgical as well as medical treatment to cure diseases of Ear, Nose and Throat for improved patient management. Special focus of discussion was the role of robotic surgery in reducing the problems like snoring and use of endoscope in ear operations. A major surgery involving a neck mass going till brain was performed successfully by the famous international level skull base surgeon Dr. Satish Jain from Jaipur. Another feather in the cap was the 7 Cochlear Implant Surgeries performed at SGRD University to permanently cure congenital deafness in children under their initiative “SOUND” by renowned surgeon Dr. Satya Prakash Dubey. The conference was a huge success with its scientific program, warm hospitality and arrangements appreciated by the delegates.

Dr. A.P Singh further said that the event also had special workshops for audiologists to train them in rehabilitation of cochlear implant recipients and another workshop to train them in rehabilitation of voice and swallowing in radiation treated cancer patients as well as those with neurological disorders. About 100 audiologists from all over India attended these training sessions. To serve people at grass root level SGRD University also invited around 80 special educators to train them in auditory verbal therapy for deaf children.

Singh, Dean, Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences, Sri Amritsar, Dr. Manjit Singh Uppal, Director Principal, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Sri Amritsar Doctors & faculty members from all the India and other vital personalities were present conducting the proceeding.
