Amritsar, Dec. 30 (Punjab Post Bureau) – BJP senior leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today condemned the ruling Congress for `killing the democratic traditions’ by resorting to violence, booth capturing, intimidation and opening threatening the opposition parties supporters during the polling for the Panchayat elections. He said in whole of the border region, especially in Rajasansi,Majitha Ajnala and Attari, the Congress leaders with the help of the police openly threatened the voters and resorting to violence.
“This is nothing but murder of democracy. The intimidation, violence and use of the official machinery was at its peak during the polling today. There were many places where ruling party leaders indulged in intimidation”, said Chhina in a statement issued here. He warned the Congress that they were setting the wrong precedence and dividing the people on political lines and electoral machinery was being undermined.
Chhina said Captain Amarinder Singh and others owe their explanation to the people of the state for large scale violence and scuffling and misuse of the public machinery during the polling. He said at village Harshe Chhina, Ladeh and many others, there were open threats issued to the voters by the ruling party leaders and fake votes were cast in favour of the Congress-supported candidates.
