Do not throw Plastic Bags, Debris in Canal Water- AVM

PUNJ0101201906Amritsar, Jan 1, 2019 (Punjab Post Bureau) – UBDC is a very important water channel rising out of the river Ravi and lending special charm to the landscape of Amritsar. It crosses G.T Road (Amritsar- Jalandhar) that road  Bridge called Taraan Wala Pul and through  outlet near this Bridge it also feed water to the Sarover of Shiri Harimander Sahib.Unfortunately, this city portion of Canal  remained in total neglect and disrepair all the last fifteen years or so particularly after irresponsible residents started dumping flowers, clay models and other leftovers like earthen ware and even domestic garbage much like in a sewer. Also There are so many religious festivals like Genesh Puja, Chhat Puja, Navrateras in which it is our trust to put the articles in flowing water to please the God. So due the deposition of plastic bags, earthen articles & heavy growth of Jungle Booti in the portion from Taran Wala Pul to Sultanwind road Bridge, presented a very ugly eyesore to tourists and old city lovers. Amritsar Vikas  Manch  requested the the irrigation department particularly senior officers like Er Jasvir Singh Sandhu (now Chief Engineer ) and his team of XENs, SDOs who accepted  our request and paid due attention to the problem and deputed departmental men and voluntarily machinery during the special closure of the canal for about a month (December 2018). Now it gives good look but heavy debris are still to remove.

The Site was visited by members of Amritsar Vikas Manch, Comprising Prof. Mohan Singh, President; Manjit Singh Saini G/Secty., Executive Members Er, Gurdial Singh, Er Balwinder Patti, Kuldeep Singh, Surinderjit Bittu, Patron Kulwant Singh Ankhi; Nirmal Anand. Team thanked all the officers & officials (irrigation Department) for this appreciable work done without waiting the Govt. Budget. AVM Team also request to the people through media to keep the canal neat and clean by not throwing debris etc. into Canal.
