Discussed various Educational, Sikh Community Related Issues
Amritsar, Jan. 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A seven members delegation of Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in parliament house to discuss various educational and Sikh community related matters. The meeting lasted for more than 25 minutes during which the PM gave a patient hearing to the delegation and said that minority community institutions’ issues are at the priority list of Government of India.
The delegation headed by KCGC Honorary Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina apprised the PM about certain limitations of various schemes and incentives meant for the minority educational institutions including donations, grants and other forms of financial assistance. They said that the schemes must be available to the community throughout the Nation.
They also discussed in details about the current scenario of the farming sector and demanded that the Swaminathan Commission Report must be implemented which will revolutionize the `distressed’ agriculture sector. `The historic Khalsa College, established in 1892 is running country’s one of the oldest agriculture department. There is dire need to address the practical difficulties being faced by farming community’, said Chhina.
The delegation comprised of KCGC Joint Secretaries Gunbir Singh, Ajmer Singh Heir, Rajbir Singh, S.S Mannan apart from Principal Khalsa College, Dr. Mehal Singh and Under Secretary Dharminder Singh Rataul. They thanked the Government of India and especially PM for the initiative to open Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, which will facilitate free flow of pilgrims to the historic holy shrine and also discussed the progress and challenges pertaining to development of the holy city Amritsar.
“We also thanked PM for Centre Government’s decision to organize various national level programs dedicated to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji 550th Parkash Gurupurab in the year 2019. The gratitude were also expressed to Mr. Modi for setting up the Special Investigating Team (SIT) for probing the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre which is now resulting into conviction of top influential persons by the judiciary”, said Chhina.
KCGC, established during British Era in 1890, is India’s one of the oldest educational body which is running 19 educational institutions including the historic Khalsa College housed in the iconic heritage building in Amritsar. The professional educational institutions under the KCGC are spread all over Punjab and Mohali near Chandigarh.
