One-Week Short Term Course inaugurated at GNDU

Amritsar, Feb. 6 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A “One-Week Short Term Course on Preparing a Research Project Proposal PUNJ0602201903and Research Paper Writing” was inaugurated  here today at the UGC- Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 48 University and Colleges teachers including a number of budding Research Scholars from various nooks and corners of the country are participating in it.

             Prof. Narpinder Singh, Head, Deptt. of Food Science & Technology and Director Research of  the  University, Amritsar presided over the inaugural session. Prof. Narpinder Singh in his inaugural address enlightened the participants about the various issues involved in the publication of quality research papers. Highlighting the significance of quality research papers and undertaking the projects not only for the furtherance of the academic careers, but also for the society in general. He exhorted them to get their act together and to pursue quality research purposefully. What matters the most is not the quantity of papers published, but their quality, he emphasized.

            Making them aware of the prevalent malpractices in the publication of research papers, he warned them that it is not possible in the world of today to get away with them. He also apprised them with the significance of impact factor, h-index, on the basis of which the journals of repute are recognized. Writing of a quality research paper also requires appropriate skills, which need to be mastered alongwith the pursuit of research, he concluded.

            Prof. P.K. Pati, Head, Deptt. of Biotechnology and the Coordinator apprised the participants with the thrust area of the Course, which has been designed to meet the growing needs not only of the young faculty members, but also of the research scholars pertaining to a heterogeneity of academic disciplines.

            Dr. Mohan Kumar traced the brief history of the Centre, which, he opined, has carved a niche for itself in the realms of higher education in the country. Earlier the Chief Guest was accorded a welcome by presenting a sapling by Prof. P.K. Pati, Dr. Mohan Kumar and Dr. Rajesh Kumar, School of Social Sciences and the Deputy Coordinator. In the end vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Rajesh Kumar.
