National Seminar on “Political Journey of Mahatma Gandhi” Organized at DAV College 

Amritsar, Jan 21 (Punjab Post Bureau) – PG Department of History, DAV College organized one day UGC Sponsored National Seminar on “Political Journey of Mahatma Gandhi” Under the Aegis of Ghandhian Studies Centre on January 21st, 2020.

            Rohit Mehra ,Additional Commissioner Income Tax ,Ludhiana was the Chief Guest and Prof. S. Irfan Habib Formerly Maulana Azad Chair National University Education Planning and Administration New Delhi was the Guest of Honour during the event.

            Prof K.L Tuteja Former Head of History Department, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra was the Keynote speaker during the event. He congratulated department for their efforts to organize such seminars.  While briefing he focused on ideology of Mahatma Gandhi that how he preached sacrifice, selflessness and service to the humanity.

In the Inaugural Session Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College and Chairman of Gandhain Studies Centre gave the welcoming address to all the guests present. While stressing upon importance for organizing such events, he said that such intellectual seminars helps scholars and students to understand the ideology of Gandhi Ji based on Satya, Ahimsa and Sarvodaya. He also highlighted the contributions of Gandhi ji as most rational personality in upliftment of society by breaking all the socio political barriers.

While addressing the Guest, Prof Shilpi Seth, Director, Gandhain Studies Centre and Head, PG Department of History and Travel Tourism highlighted the main purpose behind organizing this seminar was to help people understand the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and will also help to solve many of the controversies surrounding Mahatma Gandhi and to know how his views were perceived by his contemporaries.

            The event was conducted in two technical sessions. During the event, Research Papers based on various topics such as Gandhi in South Africa , Early Experiments of Mahatma Gandhi: Champaran, Kheda and Ahmedabad, Non Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience and Gandhi, Round Table Conferences, Poona Pact, Gandhi and Ambedkar, Gandhi and Two World Wars, Quit India Movement, Towards Partition, Punjab Response on Gandhian Movement and etc .

 In the First Technical Session, Dr. Amandeep Bal Head of History Department Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Dr. Rakumar Hans Formerly Professor M.S Rao University, Baroda Gujrat and Dr. Joginder Singh Director Bhai Vir Singh Sadan Amritsar were the Chairpersons.

            In the Second Technical Session Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sohal Former Head of Department of History Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Dr.  Daljit Singh Head Department Historical Studies PU Patiala and Dr. Anil Datta Mishra Former Director Gandhi Memorial and Museum were the Chairpersons during the event.

            After the second session Valedictory note was given by Prof Salil Mishra (Pro Vice Chancellor) Ambedkar University New Delhi.

This event was organized under the supervision of Dr Babusha Maingi, Dr Mohit Mehra, Prof. Munish Singh, Dr. Haramandeep Singh Sohal, Prof Megha and Himani were also present during the occasion.
