GNDU UGC-HRDC started first online course on Intellectual Property Rights and Ethics

Amritsar, July 29 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu Vice-Chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University inaugurated one week UGC approved online short term course on ‘Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & Ethics’ being conducted by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of the University here today. The Course comprises of 38 participants from far off places like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and from varied disciplines such as, Chemistry, Education,Electronics & Communication, Environmental Sciences, Laws, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Planning etc. are online participating.

             Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig, Director, HRDC of the University welcomed all the participants and ensured full support during seven days online short term course and Dr. Rajbir Bhatti, Deputy-Director HRDC welcomed the Chief Guest, Prof. Sandhu and took the participants through a virtual tour of the university. Prof. Sandhu deliberated on the importance of IPR related issues in research and emphasized that India has lesser number of patents filed primarily due to lack of knowledge about IPR.

              Prof. Sandhu said that this course will help to create awareness about the economic, social and cultural benefits of IPRs. He said that our researchers need to be encourged to get their research registered. 

              HRDC of the University is working hard under the dynamic leadership of its Chief-patron Prof. Sandhu, to fulfill its vision to nurture young faculty as future leaders in education by way of conducting UGC approved courses for faculty and research scholars.

               In the current scenario, when personal contact is not possible, HRDC-GNDU has endeavored to start the courses in online mode as per the recent guidelines by UGC. Incidentally, this is the first short term course to be conducted online, the HRDC staff along with the Department of Computer Science and Technology has been working round the clock to make this course run smoothly. Since the lock down was imposed and even afterwards, University is imparting education online to its students.

            Dr. Bimaldeep Singh Course Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. Experts in the field of IPR from all over India will be the resource persons for the various sessions of the course. First lecture was taken by Dr Aruna Tiwary, IPR Agent at TIFAC, DST New Delhi, who talked about Counterfiet and Piracy.
