Capt Govt responsible for open ‘loot’ of public exchequer by liquor ‘mafia’- Harpal Cheema

AAP leaders visit families of victims of illicit liquor, demand compensation for 20 lakh

Jandiala, July 31 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema has blamed Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for giving free run to the rampant liquor mafia in the state, saying that the mighty liquor mafia calling the shots in the state under the protective patronage of the government was burning a big hole in peoples’ pockets besides sniffing off precious lives of the people. He held Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, who also held the Excise Ministry portfolio, was squarely responsible for wreaking havoc on the families of Muchhal and Tangra villages in the district. Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday visited the aggrieved families at Muchhal and Tangra villages, and offered his condolences to the families of the victims, which had lost sole breadwinners due to illicit liquor, demanding a time-bound impartial judicial inquiry into the matter by a High Court sitting judge. Cheema was accompanied by among others, party’s Majha Zone President Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Dalbir Singh Tong, Halqa In charge Baba Bakala, Harbhajan Singh ETO, Halqa In charge Jandiala and other leaders.

               Cheema said that the victims, who were earning their livelihood and tending their families by shedding their sweat, had actually fallen victims to a corruption-riddled system. He demanded the government should expedite the process of bringing the culprits to justice by awarding exemplary punishment to them. He also demanded compensation worth Rs. 20 lakh to the next of kin of the victims and government job to an eligible member of the family.
