Dr Duggal presents‘ Small Incision Parathyroidectomy’ at 3rd UAE Head Neck Master Course” in Dubai

(Punjab Post Bureau)- At the “3rd UAE Head Neck Master Course” held at Dubai recently, Dr. Prahlad Duggal, Head Neck Cancer Surgeon at Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar made a presentation on ‘Small Incision Parathyroidectomy’. At the master’s course organised by UAE Cancer Congress, Dr Duggal demonstrated his technique via video-presentation of surgery on a citizen of Amritsar. More than 170 renowned Head Neck Cancer Surgeons from around the world were invited to discuss the latest techniques in Head Neck Cancer Surgery. As many as 200 presentations were made in the two day course where surgeons from UK, USA, Pakistan, Italy, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, New Zealand, Singapore participated.

Explaining the technique Dr. Duggal said the surgery technique for ‘Parathyroid gland tumours’, requires minute incision an incision of 1-inch in the neck, compared to conventional methods that required a larger cut. The glands located in neck region responsible for maintaining the calcium balance. Tumour of these glands results in swellings in various bones and multiple recurrent stones in the kidneys that have no known cause for their occurrence. Surgical removal of these tumours results in spontaneous regression of bony swellings as well as the resolution of kidney stones. This small incision surgery technique for parathyroid tumours is very convenient, cosmetically better and can be done as a day care surgery with patient going home after 6 to 8 hours and a swifter recovery time.”
