Punjab Police seizes 3 kg heroin in-transit to the International Market – 6 arrested

PPN2702201518

Amritsar, Feb. 27 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Controlling the local availability of drugs and neutralizing internal distribution network was the first focus of Punjab Police. Since mid-2014, internal availability has been controlled – former consumers are flooding de-addiction centers.

Since mid-2014 any instance of new consumers taking to drugs has not come to light. Plugging of supply lines from across the international border in Punjab and adjoining states and intercepting in-transit consignments sent by Pak drug lords for the national and international market is a priority.

Recently, the following seizures of in-transit drugs (from Pakistan to national/international market) have been effected :-

Amount of Heroin Sent by Pak Drug Smuggler

January 24

8 Kg Hazi
February 18

25 Kg

Imtiaz

February 25 50 Kg

Shehbaz @ Kala

All these 3 seizures were effected within 24 hours of their having entered Punjab. They were in-transit consignments meant for “end recipients” outside the States. Another 3 Kg in-transit consignment (Pak-J&K-Delhi) has been seized by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police. Punjab Police received information that the Pak drug lords are using the international border and the Line of Control in the state of Jammu and Kashmir as well for transiting heroin consignments to “end-recipients” in New Delhi and other metropolitan  centers. The information was developed and the Punjab Police zeroed onto the Akhnoor sector as being used by the Pak-based drug lords. Sunny Kumar and Sanjay Kumar are drug smugglers of Akhnoor, who engineered the transportation of this consignment from Pak drug lord Malik, meant for delivery in Delhi.

The following persons have been arrested:

  • Santokh Singh s/o Sampuran Singh caste Jatt r/o Village Durgapur Ps. Sirhali Distt. Tarn
  • Sunny Kumar s/o Sarfoo Ram r/o Khout Camp, Tehsil Akhnoor, district
  • Sanjay Kumar s/o Sarfoo Ram r/o Khout Camp, Tehsil Akhnoor, district Jammu.
  • Surinder Singh @ Titu s/o Darshan Singh caste Jatt r/o City Enclave, Jagraon
  • Shehzad Alam @ Bablu s/o Shekh Apmad caste Shekh r/o Village Maramadhava, district Betian, Bihar Maramadhava Distt. Betian, (Bihar)

The seizures include 3 kg heroin, Rs.7 lakh INR and one BMW car white colour having J&K number JK 02F 1320. It has been revealed that the smugglers were using vehicles with fake number plates for transportation of contra band consignments and a BMW car was used in order to give the impression that rich and influential persons are travelling so as to avoid detection at police check posts. A case FIR No. 17 dated 27-02-2015 u/s 21/61/85 NDPS, PS Maqboolpura, Amritsar has been registered in this connection.

During initial investigation, it came to light that they were to send Rs.7 lacs which has been seized to the originator of the consignment i.e. Malik in Pakistan. They were told to hand it to an unknown person who would contact them on instruction of Malik. A trap was laid and this person arrested. He is Ashish Kandhari s/o Narinder Kandhari r/o 30-A Garden Colony, Amritsar, a businessman who exports artificial jewellery and shawls/imports cement from Pakistan. The preliminary examination of Ashish Kandhari shows that he was to send the money to Malik under the garb of the import-export trade. Further investigations are ongoing.
