DAV Public Observes 100 years of Kamagata Maru

Amritsar, 23 May (Jagdeep SInghPPN230501)-  23rd May, 2014 marks 100 years  since the Kamagata Maru, a chartered Japanese ship arrived in Vancouver Harbour. In remembrance of this incident , the Canadian Post has  released a stamp measuring 31 mm X 38 mm  as a symbol of liberation & honour to Baba Gurdit Singh, the brave Sikh from Punjab. DAV Public School , Lawrence Road , Amritsar  on this occasion held a special assembly to pay tribute  to those 352 passengers, under the command of Baba Gurdit Singh, who stood for their rights, and protested against the exclusion law for two months but were denied entry and forced to return to India. The students of Std X presented a heartrending play , depicting atrocities suffered by those people. The students paid homage to those killed and jailed in this black incident  by reciting  self composed  patriotic  poems and making  the students aware of this dark incident in the history of the world. Regional Director of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road , Amritsar and the Manager of the school Dr. K.N.Kaul praised the efforts  of the school for making the students aware of such an important incident in the history of their country. Dr. Neera Sharma Principal of the school applauded the efforts of the students and the teachers for bringing a live the facts of this incident which was lost in the past. She said those were the true patriots and  we must learn from them to stand for justice. Mrs. Reman Sharma Supervisor Std IX & X and the History Teacher spoke about the importance of the incident in history. She advised the students to keep the spirit of human values and universal brother hood alive. She said it was the complete responsibility of teachers  and parents to extend the lessons of universal brotherhood, tolerance and justice to the students so that they rise against all bias and take the Nation ahead on the road of prosperity with a pure conscience and true love for humanity.
