BBK DAV College for Women organizes Sports Awards Day

Amritsar, April 14 (Punjab Post Bureau) – BBK DAV College for Women organized Sports Awards Day to felicitate 422 players on their achievements in various national and international championships. Gurjeet Sinigh Aujla, Member of Parliament Lok Sabha, Amritsar was the Chief Guest for the event. Dr. Harvinder Singh Randhawa, Deputy Director Sports and Head, Department of Physical Education, GNDU was the Guest of Honour for the same.PPN1404201710

While welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that it is a proud moment for the college to honour the BBK DAV students who have worked relentlessly to maintain college performances in various sports championships because of  to which the college is one of the leading sports institutions of the northern India. She presented the annual sports report and briefly gave an overview of the achievements of players in various competitions. She added that college has always facilitated players by giving them financial assistance, free hostel stay and free transportation for their overall grooming.

Addressing the students, S. Gurjeet Sinigh Aujla said that BBK DAV College for Women is a right platform for all the parents who seek to provide holistic growth to their wards. He emphasized the need of channelizing the energy of the youth in the right direction and abstaining them from falling prey to the menace of drug addiction.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Randhawa said that BBK DAV College for Women is one of the best institutions which bring about the overall development of the students in academics, sports and cultural activities. He added that the contribution of the college players is commendable in lifting the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA TROPHY).

College honoured its alumni Ms. Sneh Rana, an international player as well as a member of Indian Cricket Team & Ms. Priyanshu, Member, Archery Team of India, for their remarkable contribution in the field of sports. Gagandeep Kaur of Softball and Baseball team was conferred the Best Player Award. Besides, Kezia Vargheese, International Cycling Player was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 25000/-, Elangbam Chouba Devi was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 20000/-, Harpreet Kaur & Mandeep Kaur,  Softball player, Manalisha Sonowal, Weight Lifting, Komal Ajay Deshmukh, Cycling player were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 15000/-.  12 students were also honoured for their outstanding performance in both sports and academics. Members of Sports Club, distinct media persons and 50 coaches were also honoured. BBK sports women enthralled the audience with their performance in yoga, rhythmic gymnastics, aesthetic gymnastics and rope mulkhumb. Sports News Bulletin was also released on this event. The students held the audience spellbound with Kalbelia dance.

Mr. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC, thanked the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time. S. Mohinderjit Singh and Mr. Charanjit Rai Mahindru, Members of LMC, Rakesh Mehra & Sh. Sandeep Ahuja, Members of Arya Samaj and Dr. K.S. Manchanda were also present on the occasion. Mrs. Sweety Bala, Head, Department of Physical Education, along with other faculty members, congratulated the award winners.
