KCW student Navjeet returns from US with Bronze in World Meet to a rousing reception

Amritsar, July 30 (Dharminder Rataul)-  A rousing reception was accorded to India’s shining athletic star Navjeet Dhillon, a student of Khalsa College for Women (KCW) who returned home today after bagging Bronze Medal in World Junior Championship, held at Eugene, USA. Her family members, friends, teachers and fellow students broke to dance and singing to the beats of drums as country’s young athletic gem landed in the college campus.
Navjeet who recorded 56.44 meters Discus Throw in the world event to bag the honour for India owed her success to her training, college coaches and family. She said it was dream come true to contest the world meet and ghow tough it was to compete with the athletes of the world. She is already an Asian Champion and had won silver medal in Discus Throw and Bronze Medal in Shotput in recently concluded Junior Asian Athletics Meet, held at Taipei in Taiwan. She was welcomed by College Principal Dr.Sukhbir Kaur Mahal, staff and students. A Champion throughout, Navjit is now eyeing next Olympics to be held in Brazil in 2016.  Navjit, a student of BA First Year had already set a new national record in Shotput, covering the distance of 15.89 mts during the Junior Federation Cup that concluded at Chennai recently. Dr.Mahal congratulated her for performance and said it was due to her hard work and guidance of her father Jaspal Singh Dhillon who himself is a coach that she was attaining the high echelons in sports.
Navjeet meanwhile thanked College staff including Dr.Mahal, sports in charge Sukhdeep Kaur and her coaches and family members for the achievement. She said her she would immediately start practice for the upcoming international sports event and then finally for the Olympics. Navjeet’s whole family is devoted to sports and apart from her father, her mother Kuldeep Kaur, brother Jasdeep Singh and sister had been playing at state and national level in various sports.
