Gurjeet Singh Aujla informed while addressing a press conference at SGRDJI Airport that Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave clearance to CAT III B lighting system fitted at SGRDJI Airport on 12<sup>th<\/sup> October. This fog season flights can land and take off from Amritsar in as less as 50 metersvisibility whereas previously it was minimum 500 meters visibility. Aujla said that the CAT III-B level of instrument landing system (ILS) enables aircraft to land when the visibility is down to 50 metres. It guides an aircraft in approaching and landing on a runway by a combination of radio signals and high-intensity lighting arrays. Besides, ILS also helps pilots while landing during heavy rainfall. By upgrading the airport to CAT-IIIB level, the traffic bound for Delhi airport can also be diverted to Amritsar during the peak foggy season.<\/p>\n<p>He further informed that discussions are going on with Air Force to acquire 17.5 acres of land to expand the airport, 10 more aircraft parking slots will be added, 2 of the unoperational aerobridges have also been commissioned along with other improvements. He said that in spite of these improvements the airport is still lacking a lot which is only due to desertion by Ministry of Civil Aviation which is playing in the hands of aero-politicians who will lose a lot if Amritsar airport develops. Replying to a query about Amritsar Nanded flight Aujla informed that he is in touch with the Ministry regarding a triangular link to three Takhatsi.e Amritsar-Nanded-Patna. He said during his visit to US and Canada this demand came up along with direct connections to Amritsar. Citing violence in Haryana Aujla said that most of the Punjabi are preferring landing at Amritsar instead of New Delhi and then coming by land to Punjab.<\/p>\n<p>Aujla further added that he had conducted meetings with Indo Canadian Friendship Society regarding Air Canada flights to Amritsar upon which MP from Brampton Center Mr. Ramesh Sangha and other Punjabi origin MPs assured that they shall raise this issue with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who will discuss this issue with Indian authorities during his visit to India.<\/p>\n<p>Aujla further added that Amritsar airport used to have good exports of perishable goods but due to discontinuation of direct flights this exports have totally stopped. He said this is because of less cargo space in the aircrafts operating from Amritsar. He appealed to Ministry of Civil Aviation to give clearances to operators willing to operate large bodied aircrafts from Amritsar.<\/p>\n<p>Members and representatives from Amritsar VikasManch, Voice of Amritsar, SanjhiChaan Foundation, Mission Aagaz, Sarbat the Bhalla were also present during the briefing.
