Special lecture on Biological Aspects of Attention Control and Dementia<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

\"PPN3008201809\"Amritsar, August 30  (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Society of Human Genetics of the Department of Human Genetics of Guru Nanak Dev University organized a lecture on \u201cBiological Aspects of Attention Control and Dementia\u201d. This lecture was delivered by Dr. Sandeepa Sur, Post doctoral Fellow in Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. A large number of students of the department, research scholars and the faculty members were present.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sandeepa Sur shared her extensive research work on attention control, dementia and how ageing deteriorates attention control. She also briefly touched upon here recent work on cerebrovascular reactivity as a biomarker for dementia. The topics captured the interest of the audience and the students who enthusiastically asked many questions to which the speaker responded.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Departmental Chapter of the Alumni Association, Department of Human Genetics of the University also organized an interactive session on \u2018My Experiences: Genetics and Beyond\u2019 by Dr. Sandeepa Sur. Dr. Sandeepa Sur is an alumnus of the department of 2001 batch.  She has a Master\u2019s degree in Human Genetics from the Department of Human Genetics of the University, and a Ph.D degree from Tulane University, Louisina, USA. Currently she is working as a Post doctoral Research Fellow in the Magnetic Resonance Division of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sur has made significant contribution in the field of neurobiology through her research work on the role of ageing in attention control. The students of the department actively interacted with Dr. Sur and asked questions about her academic journey from GNDU to USA. She responded to all the queries and gave relevant suggestions and tips to the students to remain focussed. She counseled them about the wide range of opportunities in USA and scholarship avenues which students can avail and build a strong scientific career.<\/p>\n
