As many as 40 University and College teachers pertaining to a multiplicity of academic disciplines from Punjab and other far-flung states of the country are participating in it. Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar presided over the inaugural session.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his inaugural address, he exhorted the teaching fraternity to take their profession not only as a source of livelihood, but also to realize the onus lying on their shoulders to mould the younger generations. The major aims of these courses offered by this Centre, as guided by the University Grants Commission, is to prepare the teachers of today to meet the challenges being posed by the developments taking place at a fast pace in various domains, he further said. Elaborating his point of view, he said that they can&#8217;t afford to confine themselves only to teaching &amp; research in their respective disciplines; on the contrary, they have to act as torch-bearers for the society at large. Drawing a parallel between the training imparted to future civil servants &amp; these training programmes, he opined that such courses are of utmost significance for the teaching community as well. Counselling them to derive maximum academic, intellectual mileage from these courses, he said only then the actual aim of such programmes is realized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prof. Sandhu also apprised the participants with the growing stature of the University, which has already carved a niche for itself in the realms of higher education in the country. Prof Satwinder Kaur Dhillon, Coordinator &amp; Head, Deptt of Zoology briefed the audience with the thrust area of the programme, which, she said, was to make the participants aware of the advancements in the various domains of the knowledge. Prof Adarsh Pal Vig, Director of the centre advised the participants to make a virtue out of the necessity &amp; to put in their best to augment their knowledge, expertise not only in the academic sessions, but also through mutual interactions with each other.
