The fast declining time-tested moral, ethical, human, social values in the present times can be attributed to a great extent to the relegation of social sciences to the background, he continued. Undoubtedly, the unprecedented scientific & technological development in the last few decades has transformed the complexion of the human society at large, but, at the same time, it has engendered a host of complex social issues for the mankind, which can be resolved only in tandem with the social scientists. Underlining the fact, that the social sciences have to coexist in close harmony with the other sciences like, physical, natural etc in order to make this world a better place to live in, he emphasized on disseminating the real worth of social sciences amongst the society.

Dr. Anjali Mehra, School of Social Sciences & the coordinator apprised the participants with the diversity of burning social, political, cultural issues likely to be discussed threadbare during these two weeks. Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig, Director of the centre enumerated the milestones achieved by the university in a comparatively short span of nearly five decades. Exhorting the participants to make a virtue out of the necessity, he opined that these courses are meant not only for their professional furtherance, but also to broaden their horizon.

Prof. Sunita Gupta Dean, Social Sciences Faculty proposed the formal vote of thanks Earlier Prof. S.S Behl was extended a formal welcome by the dignitaries.

Amritsar, February 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A two Week Refresher Course in Social Sciences was inaugurated at the UGC HRDC of the university on February 20.
