In which 100 smart cities selected under smart city mission, capital cities and cities with a population of more than five lakh can participate for this challenge. The participating cities will have to prepare a project proposal and send it to the Ministry to promote cycling in their city, which will be analysed by the Ministry and a total of 11 cities will be selected for implementation of the project by October. The selected city will be provided a grant of Rs. 1 crore and technical assistance by the Ministry to implement the selected project.

Giving more information on this occasion, Smart City CEO Komal Mittal said that many measures are being taken to promote cycling in the city. Under the Smart City Mission, different parts of the city have been identified, where a 23 km long cycle track could be constructed. Under this, in the first phase, a 2.5 km dedicated cycle track is under construction in Ranjit Avenue and a proposal for track construction in the rest of the area is being prepared and sent for Cycle for Change Challenge. She said that the aim of the ‘Cycle for Change Challenge’ is not just to build tracks but also to promote cycling to keep people healthy. So that people are motivated for healthier activities in this pandemic emergency. Apart from this, suggestions have been sought from the people and social organizations under the Cycle for Change Challenge for making the city more cycle friendly. Which can also be shared by visiting the ministry website or by visiting the social media handle of Amritsar Smart City? She informed that the Municipal Corporation and Amritsar Smart City are planning to declare some roads of the city as cycle zones for a few hours in the weekend to promote cycling. There will be a ban on driving cars and motor vehicles on this selected road, so that people can do cycling and other activities in comfortable and safe environment.

Suggestions called from people and social organizations Amritsar, August 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – To promote cycling, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs have launched the ‘Cycle for Change’ challenge in the cities of the country.
