Amritsar, 31 January (Punjab Post Bureau)- With the view to meet increasing demand of health services and medical education in border region, Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) today unveiled an ambitious project of new Khalsa Medical College (KMC), here. The College, which will have 700-bed-ultra-modern hospital, will come up in next three years at the estimated cost of Rs.200 crore. Talking to media persons, KCGC honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said this would be one of the most modern College and Hospital with latest technology and equipment to be imported from Israel. He said they would also offer round-the-clock ambulance service apart from a world-class OPD, Indoor Patient Care and high-tech Diagnostic Centres. The students from the border region, he said would get international level medical education in all 17 medical disciplines. This would be KCGC\u2019s 18th<\/sup> top educational institution as the society is already running 17 colleges and schools including historic Khalsa College. The KMC will come up at 20 acres of land in the backyard of Khalsa College and in first phase the sprawling complex of modern seven-story-hospital would be set up. “The hospital alone will cost Rs.84 crore\u2019\u2019, said Chhina adding that KCGC President Satyajit Singh Majithia would shortly lay the foundation stone of the new College. He said they conceived the idea following huge demand for professional courses especially in the health sector and medical education. He said in the beginning they will seek 100 MBBS seats which would be later increased. He said this was huge project that will be one of the most important decisions taken by KCGC in the recent history. He said they would produce world class doctors and would also focus on the high-speed, well-equipped Ambulance service. “We have provisions even for the Air Ambulances in the hospital to be constructed\u2019\u2019, said he. The hospital itself will be spread in 6.0 lakhs square feet complex. “This will not be entirely a commercial venture and it would be run by the Khalsa College Charitable Society (KCCS), the poor and needy would be treated and given medical education at the lower costs\u2019\u2019, announced Chhina.
