Amritsar, Nov. 18 (Punjab Post Bureau)- PG Department of Economics, DAV College Amritsar in association with Punjab & Chandigarh College Teachers Union organized a one-day national seminar on \u201cNew Education Policy: Issues and Challenges\u201d. The main aim behind organizing this seminar was to elicit views on New Education Policy proposed by Ministry of Human Resource & Development, Government of India. Many academicians, teachers and professionals from different fields across the country took part in this seminar.<\/p>\n
Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar along with members of organizing committee headed by Prof HS Walia, Head, PG Department of Economics welcomed the Chief Guest Dr Satish Kumar Sharma, Director, DAV CMC, New Delhi, Dr Kuldeep Aggarwal, Director, National Institute of Open School, Government of India, Noida, Prof Renu Malviya, Lady Irwin College, Delhi University, \u00a0Advocate Sudharshan Kapoor, Chairman LMC and Prof. Jagwant Singh from SD College, Chandigarh and President PCCTU. Dr. Kuldeep Agarwal and Prof Renu Malviya were the Keynote speakers who later on shared their views on New Education Policy and also gave suggestions to improve the loopholes existing in the present education system.<\/p>\n
While speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar said that the main objective behind organizing this National seminar was to discuss the challenges in education sector at both school and higher level. He also added that India has great contribution in education sector. He gave examples of Nalanda and Takshila but he also focused on the fact that today Indian students are going abroad at fast pace and there is urgent need to analyze the loopholes in the existing education sector.<\/p>\n
Dr Kuldeep Aggarwal talked about the need of ICT (Information Communication Technology) for Sustainable Development, Holistic Education, Skill Development and Vocational development along with other important issues.\u00a0 He also highlighted the goals for sustainable development that include the focus on the issues like Poverty Reduction, Providing Food Security, ensuring Healthy life and Reducing Inequality. While discussing the issues further, he also stressed on four Pillars of Education i.e. Learning to know, Learning to Do, Learning to live together and Learning to Be. Besides this he also emphasized on school curriculum which should be aimed at Intellectual Development, Value Inculcation, Patriotism, Love for Humanity and Socialization. Prof Renu Malviya also discussed about various issues of higher education and emphasized on the fact that whatever we are doing as teacher is need to be documented.\u00a0 She also discussed about trends in education research for foreign countries and in Indian context. She added that in foreign countries research work is patent and send for publishing whereas in India there is lack of funding and it should be improved so that research work can be used practically in future.<\/p>\n
Prof H.S Walia said that today education sector should be given more importance and more budgets should be allocated to education sector than the physical sector.\u00a0 He also emphasized that various schemes executed in education sector like Career Advancement Scheme and measuring API scores are not the correct parameter for judging the quality of education that we are providing to students. He also focused on the disparity which is seen in education sector for rural and urban areas. He said that schemes should be made so that deprived sections of society should be taken forward to get Education. Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma, Director DAV CMC, New Delhi appreciated the efforts of the college management in bringing different ideas together on a common platform. While addressing the gathering of intellectuals, he recollected various past experiences especially the role of teachers union in highlighting the problems of teachers and loopholes in the education system. He stressed on the need\u00a0 of improvements in the existing system.<\/p>\n
Seminar was followed by Panel discussion in which various scholars representing different universities and colleges presented their views on the loopholes of present education system and in their way suggested the best possible improvements that must be included in the new education policy. The panel discussion was followed by technical sessions in which issues prevailing in New Education Policy were discussed and papers based on same were presented by Scholars.
