Amritsar, October 21(Punjab Post Bureau)- The Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum built to showcase the supreme sacrifices made by the Punjabis while serving in the armed forces, is all set for grand inauguration on October 23. S. Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab will dedicate the memorial to the nation in a special ceremony to be organized to mark the occasion, informed a spokesman of the government of Punjab.<\/p>\n
Besides, Punjab Cabinet Ministers, gallantry awardees and luminaries from Defense background including Marshall of the Air Force, S. Arjan Singh, former Chief of Army Staff, General Deepak Kapur, former Air Chief Marshall, Mr. S.K. Sareen, Captain Bana Singh PVC ,World War II veteran Major Tom Donway from UK, Dawinder Dhillon, Secretary Chattri Memorial Group, Mr. Richard from Commonwealth Graves Commission will grace the occasion, said he.<\/p>\n
Divulging into further details, the spokesman informed that for the first time ever in the history of the Nation a memorial has been constructed by the State Government to showcase the splendid gallantry deeds of all its <\/em>brave hearts<\/em>. The brain child of Chief Minister Punjab, the main motive of the memorial is to immortalize the deeds of brave soldiers and to inspire and infuse the spirit of patriotism in the youth.<\/p>\n Spread over seven acres along Amritsar-Attari Road, the memorial has come up at a cost of Rs 135 crore. The beautiful structure has a 45-metre high stainless steel sword on the central edifice, representing strength and courage of the people of Punjab while defending the nation in the hour of need. This iconic structure stands atop a platform surrounded by a water body. Names of nearly 3500 martyrs are inscribed on the memorial built at an elevation of 12 feet.<\/p>\n A blend of traditional architecture and modern style, the memorial houses nine state-of-the-art galleries built to showcase Punjab\u2019s martial tradition and military campaigns from the era of Sri Guru Hargobind\u00a0 Singh ji, through the rise of the Sikh empire, Anglo-Sikh wars to post-Independence wars and operations till Operation Parakram in 2002 through photographs, illustrations, paintings, artifacts, weapons and interactive panels.<\/p>\n Apart from the memorial, the campus exhibits pictures of the brave soldiers, their brief\u00a0 bio-data, a MiG-23 and a model of the decommissioned aircraft carrier ship, INS Vikrant, three tanks have also been displayed \u2014 a \u2018Sherman\u2019 Pakistani tank which was captured in 1965 by India\u2019s 7th Light Cavalry, a Pakistani \u2018Patton\u2019 tank that the Indian Army secured in 1971 and India\u2019s Centurion Tank that figured prominently in the 1965 and 1971 Wars.<\/p>\n A mural has been built to commemorate the Battle of Saragarhi and the names of the 21 Sikh martyrs of the battle have been engraved on it. The boundary wall of the memorial has been constructed with Nanakshahi bricks. Its landscaping reflects three different war zones from pre-British era, British era and post-independent era. A special light and sound show is also be a\u00a0 part of the memorial. A special projection mapping has been installed at the memorial to bring alive war like scenes through special light and sound effects for the visitors.<\/p>\n The campus also has a 7D auditorium, facilitating an almost realistic experience of different wars from different war zones. It has ample parking space, escalators, elevators and staircases, besides a lift for the physically challenge.
