Authority Amritsar alongwith Sh. Pushpinder Singh Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority Amritsar visited the Institute for Mental Health (Govt. Mental Hospital) Amritsar on the occasion of World Mental Health Day Week .A seminar was organized to aware the general public about the rights of Mentally ill patients. Dr. Sawinder Singh Director of the Mental Hospital, Dr. Sanyam Gupta were also present at the occasion. During addressing the audience and press message was conveyed that while tackling to mentally ill patient we should “Empathize with patient, “do not isolate or outcast the patients of mental illness”; Reduce Stigma and misconceptions associated with mental illness”; “Seek professional help, visit a psychiatrist” and “Give them right to live a life with dignity”. During the event a short drama was performed by the students of the institute making the general public aware about the rights of mentally ill patients and how mentally ill patients are to be treated.
Further it was informed that a “Half Way Home” for the stable mentally ill patients, who are fit for discharge but have no home, family or relatives is to likely to be inaugurated soon.
After the event wards were also inspected by Ld. Chairman, District & Sessions Judge, Amritsar and She also meet the patients to hear their problems.
