Amritsar, January 8 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) decorated and carried out a Nagar Kirtan from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, dedicated to the Prakash Gurpurb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh.
The Nagar Kirtan was led by Panj Piaras (five beloved ones) and Sri Guru Granth Sahib was enshrined in a golden palanquin. Due to weather conditions, the Nagar Kirtan was limited to the parikarma of Sri Harmandar Sahib in place of its earlier decided route.
During the inauguration of Nagar Kirtan, head granthi of Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh honoured the Panj Piaras, Nishanchi and Nagarchi Singhs with Siropaos (robes of honour). Following, the Sangat recited and sang the Gurbani Kirtan and expressed their devotion by showering flower petals, while walking along the Nagar Kirtan in the parikarma.
Giani Jagtar Singh was performing the service of Chaur Sahib (flying whisk) as he was seated on the golden palanquin. Those present on this occasion included head granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Malkit Singh, SGPC executive committee member Harjap Singh Sultanwind, SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh Bhurakohna, secretary Mohinder Singh Ahli, additional secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, assistant secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Sakatar Singh, Sulakhan Singh Bhangali, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal, and the Sangat.
