Amritsar, 3 October (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Zoological Society of PG Department of Zoology celebrated “World Ozone Day-2023” to create awareness about the importance and need of the Ozone layer which is providing protection to living world against the UV rays coming out from the Sun.
Experts said increasing pollution due to industrialization has been a continuous threat leading to depletion of ozone layer resulting in penetration of UV rays in earth’s atmosphere, which is the major cause of increasing incidence of skin cancers among humans. During this event, students of B.Sc. (Medical) and M.Sc. (Zoology) participated in various competitions like Quiz, Rangoli and Photography.
Principal Dr. Mehal Singh addressed the participants and said that this kind of awareness programs can help the people in understanding the role of the ozone layer. Dr. Amandeep Singh Co-ordinator of the Zoological Society presented the brief report of the event. Trophies and certificates were distributed to the winners.
Head of the department Dr. Jasjit Kaur Randhawa presented vote of thanks. Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Zorawar Singh, Dr. Amandeep Singh, Prof. Randeep Singh, Dr. Rajbir Kaur, Dr. Satinder Kaur, Prof. Gurpreet Kaur and Dr. Khushboo Sharma were present.
