Amritsar, August 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Department of History of Guru Nanak Dev University on initiative of Indira Gandhi National University Centre of Arts organized a lecture on “The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day” under the leadership of Vice Chohal and Prof. Amandeep Bal were the guest speakers of the event. Dr. Manu Sharma, Head Department of History welcomes and introduced the guests. The first lecture delivered by Prof. Sukhdev Singh Sohal (Former Prof. and Head) on Long Shadow of the Partition (1947): A Retrospective, in which he focuses on the British Perspective and Cinema, Print & Social Media on Partition.
Prof. Amandeep Bal, Jallianwala Bagh Chair expressed her views on the trauma, abductions and rapes of women, the worst victims of violence. Creative writers such as Amrita Pritam, Khushwant Singh, Bhisham Sahni, Sadat Hasan Manto were few to write about the violence and sufferings of women. Two minutes silence was observed in the memory of partition victims followed by Question/Answer session. Dr. Shefali Chauhan extended the vote of thanks to the speakers, IGNCA Vice Chancellor, Dean Academics, Registrar and Audience. Dr. Shefali, Dr. Harneet and Dr. Roopika coordinated the event.
