Hi-Tech Digital Library and Information Centre launched at KCET

Amritsar, May 11 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A hi-tech Digital Library and Information Centre was today launched at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET). The modern library set up is an initiative aiming to provide the students and faculty with seamless access to high-quality academic resources and foster a culture of research and innovation, said authorities.

The program named as “Gyan Srot” is developed as a modern digital solution equipped with advanced infrastructure and a vast repository of academic resources. The key highlight of the library is the implementation of the KOHA Integrated Library System, a globally recognized open-source, web-based platform that facilitates efficient cataloguing, circulation, and user management.

Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) honourary secretary and Khalsa University Pro-Chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina who inaugurated the digital platform said the initiative marks one of the first implementations of the KOHA system in Punjab at such an advanced level, setting a benchmark for other institutions in the region. He congratulated KCET Director Dr.Manju Bala and whole faculty for commencement of the e-library system.

Chhina also said that “Gyan Srot” is a comprehensive knowledge hub that will integrate traditional learning with modern digital advancements. Dr. Bala who welcomed the guests at the launching function said the new Centre houses more than 18,000 books and provides access to over 1500 e-books sourced from reputed platforms such as IEEE, AICTE, and NDLI, along with religious literature, national and international journals, and valuable faculty research work.

“The system has been upgraded to its latest version and offers features such as customizable search, online circulation, barcode printing, report generation, and user self-registration through OPAC”, said Dr.Bala adding that KCET has become the first College in state with such an advanced level of library system.

The library is also equipped with RFID-enabled technology, including security gates, handheld scanners, and RFID readers, ensuring efficient management, tracking, and security of resources. The installation of an OPAC Kiosk at the entrance adds to user convenience, allowing quick and easy access to the library catalog. The institute has also integrated several supportive digital initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to adopting technology-driven academic practices. Khalsa University Dean Academics Dr.Surinder Kaur, Registrar Dr. Khushvinder Kumar, Khalsa College Principal Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa and others were present.
