Legendary War Hero Runs a Scholarship in Wife’s Name
Amritsar, Sept. 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Khalsa College Governing Council, Khalsa College Principal and Staff today expressed condolences on the death of legendary war hero Marshal of Indian Air Force (MIAF) Arjan Singh. The great soldier visited the College in 2006 as his father Kishan Singh studied in the historic institution from 1932 to 1936 and he wanted to show his grand children the College their great grandfather had attended.
Following his wife Teji’s death in 2011, he introduced a scholarship in the College. Today a condolence meeting was convened at the College Campus by Principal Dr. Mehal Singh and all expressed condolences on the sad demise of MIAF Arjan Singh as the two minute silence was also held in the memory of the departed soul.
KCGC President Satayajit Singh Majithia and honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said in a joint statement that Arjan Singh was the only officer of the IAF to be given a distinction equal to that of Field Marshal. Principal said the `great general’ revered the Alma mater of his father and thus constituted scholarship in the memory of his wife for the students of Kohali village (near Ram Tirath in Amritsar district) pursuing higher education at the College.
Majithia and Chhina said he shall continue to be an inspiration for the youth of India in general and students of Khalsa College Amritsar in particular. Apart from scholarship, Arjan Singh’s life size picture adorns the wall of the Sikh history research library on the campus which he visited a couple of times and last visit was in 2006. He shared his thoughts during his visit with teachers here that he wanted to study in this great institution where his father studied but the engineering subjects he had chosen were available at Lahore Government College only.
