Vajra Corps Celebrates 70th Infantry Day

Jalandhar, Oct. 27 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Vajra Corps celebrated the 70th Infantry Day with traditional solemnity PPN2710201701and gaiety on 27 Oct 2017.  Major General Balwinder Singh, Chief of Staff  Vajra Corps, laid wreath at `Vajra Shaurya Sthal’ in Jalandhar and paid homage to the fallen heroes.  Apart from the serving officers of the station, all Infantry veterans of Jalandhar station were also present on the occasion.

            October 27 is celebrated as Infantry Day by the Indian Army as it was on this day in 1947, that an Infantry Company of the First Battalion of  The Sikh Regiment was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar to liberate Kashmir from the invading tribals who were supported by Pakistan Army.  It was also first time that India as a Independent nation was engaged in operations against an aggression.  The swift move of Indian army ensured that Jammu & Kashmir remains an integral part of India by preventing capture of Srinagar.
