Sports Minister Pays Obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib & Sri Durgiana Mandir
Amritsar, Apr. 26 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Punjab, Mr. Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi today paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib and Sri Durgiana Mandir after assuming charge as the cabinet minister. He prayed for the peace and prosperity of Punjab at Sri Darbar Sahib and said that he has come to seek blessings of the martyrs at Jallianwala Bagh. He further stated that the people have reposed their faith in the congress party which has lead to it forming government in the state. The Sports Minister was accorded Guard of Honour by the police contingent on reaching circuit house. He was accompanied by the SDM Amritsar Vikas Hira on behalf of the district administration. Interacting with the media-persons at the circuit house, the minister said that he would carry out to the best of his ability the responsibility assigned to him by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. The Sports Minister made it clear that the recognition to Kabaddi would not be withdrawn and training in the sport would be provided at school and college level. Coming to the sport of hockey, the minister said that the sports policy would be framed in such a manner so as to ensure that hockey receives tremendous boost. Divulging more, Rana Sodhi said that the schools would soon see the recruitment of PT teachers besides the beginning of sports periods. Talking about the cricket stadium of Amritsar, the minister said that he would soon visit the stadium and rectify the shortcomings apart from making efforts to bring IPL matches to the place. The minister added that since in the recently held commonwealth games Haryana players have won 22 medals while Punjab lagged far behind at 6, the government’s Endeavour would be to frame such a sports policy that makes Punjab again numero uno in the sporting arena. Talking regarding drugs issue, the minister said that the government headed by Captain Amarinder Singh has constituted an SIT pertaining to the issue and probe is going on. He also said that whosoever’s name figures in connection with the issue would be proceeded against but there would be no political vendetta. He assured that the state government is committed to fulfill its promises and work for the peace and prosperity of Punjab
On the occasion, Sunil Dutti MLA (Amritsar North), Jugal Kishore Sharma President District Congress Committee (Urban), Bhagwantpal Singh Sachar President District Congress Committee (Rural), Mr. Gurbhej Singh Tibbi Secretary All India Youth Congress,. Devinder Singh Jang Vice President Youth Congress and Vicky Sidhu OSD to the Sports Minister, Punjab were also present.
