Chhina Condoles the Death of Tandon

Amritsar, August 15 (Punjab Post –Sukhbir Singh Khurmania) –  Senior Bhartiya Janata Party leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina condoled the  death of Balram Ji Das Tandon recalling his services to the party and the nation. He said Tandon was stalwart who fought against the emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi government and was one of the most senior leaders in the line of Lal Krishan Advani and Akali Dal supremo Parkash Singh Badal. “Tandon was deputy chief minister in the in the Gurnam Singh’s Shiromani Akali – Jan Sangh ministry in 1969-70. He also served as cabinet minister in 1977-79 and in 1997-2002 in the Punjab government headed by Parkas Singh Badal ’’, said Chhina adding that party has lost its great grand old man who was sagacious enough to espouse the cause of the Hindi-Sikh unity in the state. Tandon was a founding member of the Jan Sangh and presently the Governor of Chhatisgarh and he earlier remained Punjab BJP Chief from 1995-97. He was elected to Punjab Lagislative Assembly from Amritsar in 1960, 1962, 1967, 1969, and 1977 and from Rajpura  in 1997. He was imprisoned in 1975 during. “We have lost the `sagacious voice’ of the party and with his death the vacuum has been created which is difficult to be filled”, said Chhina
