GNDU stands second cleanest Higher Educational Institution

PPN0210201808Amritsar, Oct. 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Guru Nanak Dev University has got the status of second cleanest Higher Educational Institution in the country in the category of Government Universities. This status was based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Govt. of  India under ‘Swachh Campus Ranking 2018 of Higher Educational Institutions’ for the Swachhta hi Sewa Campaign.

            Prof (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor of University received the award from Hon’ble Union Minister of MHRD Prakash Javadekar during an award function held at Hotel ‘The Ashok’ New Delhi today.

            The Nodal Officer of All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), Prof. Renu Bhardwaj told that University had participated in Swachhata Ranking of Higher Educational Institutions in the month of August this year. Based on the marks obtained in the notified parameters, 132 institutions were selected by MHRD for field inspection by UGC. A three-member committee constituted by UGC visited Guru Nanak Dev University for physical inspection in September.

The University was assessed for Toilets adequacy and maintenance, Garbage clearance system, Hostel Kitchen hygiene and sophistication of equipment, Water purity, storage, distribution facility, Campus greenery and Rainwater harvesting, Use of solar systems and Villages or neighbourhood adoption for hygiene.

The committee members appreciated the University for Students/toilets ratio in hostels and campus, availability of 24 hrs running water for users, availability of garbage clearance units per building and floor, greenery coverage and maintenance, rainwater harvesting system and solar power use. The University also got maximum appreciation for overall ambience look and cleanliness and was admired on hostel kitchen hygiene and sophistication. The efforts taken up by the university in adoption and cleanliness of Off-campus got significant attention.

The Swachhata Rankings of Higher Education Institutions is a significant annual exercise as part of the Swachhata drive of the Government. The Rankings are intended to lead towards more hygienic and ecologically responsible campuses through generating healthy competition amongst institutions and awarding the best of them.

            While expressing happiness over this, Vice Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu thanked all the students, teachers and employees and hoped that in the future, all the support would be made to make the University an ideal University. He thanked all the staff related to the cleanliness and landscape.

            He said that to create a clean and safe environment in the University campus, the University has started the process of cycling by making big parking on both gates and encouraged cycling amongs students.

            He also said that to bring the students closer to nature, the University started flower and plant exhibitions so that more and more people love flowers and plants. He also said that special efforts have been made to renovate the infrastructure in Mata Kaulan Botanical Park planted more saplings. He said that different types of flower parks have been constructed at various empty places of the University so that the beauty of the University can be enhanced.
