61st Convocation held at DAV College Amritsar

806 Graduates & Post-Graduates awarded Degrees

 Amritsar, March 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) – DAV College, Amritsar 61st annual convocation held PUNJ2003201904today marking the beginning of a new life for Approximately 806 students. The Chief Guest for the Convocation was the Hon’ble S.  Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, whereas Dr. Satish K Sharma, Director (colleges), DAV CMC, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour during the event.

The Convocation began with a majestic and grand academic procession in which S.Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Chief Guest and Dr. Satish K Sharma Guest of Honour, Advocate Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee, Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar, Vice Principal Darshandeep, Prof. G.S Sidhu College Registrar, Prof Rajiv Arora Staff Secretary along with the members of Academic Staff Council took part. During the event meritorious students of the college Karamveer Singh and Jyoti Ahuja also greeted the guests with garlands.

After lighting the Deepshikha and chanting of Veda Mantras, Advocate Sudershan kapoor, Chairman, local managing committee along with Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar gave a floral welcome to the Chief Guest S. Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Dr. Satish K Sharma.  During the event, Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar Honoured the chief guest Jaspal Singh Sandhu with the title of Roll of Honor.

In his welcome speech Dr.  Rajesh Kumar expressed his deep gratitude towards these eminent personalities, He said that it is an honour for the college that these renowned scholars have accepted our invitation and are here to address the students and  enlighten them with their words of wisdom.  He also mentioned that the college has till now granted 36215 degrees till today to their pass out students and college has also made considerable progress in its infrastructure in the last one year. He also touched upon all the other salient developments including publications, awards, distinguished visitors, student activities, placement etc.

 During an inspiring address Jaspal Singh said the whole world is changing in all the spheres at  astonishing speed. In this transformational environment, DAV College believes that the best gift it can give to its students is the ability to understand this very basic nature of change so that they are well prepared for the future. He also emphasized on the need to work harder in order to achieve goals. He quoted some examples from his own life experience. He said that a teacher play crucial role in the life of the students and that they should not only teach in the classes but also encourage them to boost their moral values.

 While congratulating the passouts Dr. Satish K Sharma motivated the students to remain inquisitive throughout their lives, saying that this would ensure constant growth of their knowledge. He requested the students to follow the path of truth in whichever journey they undertake. He further guided the students on the parameters which should be kept in mind to excel in their future endeavours and encouraged them to develop clarity of vision and make hard work their second nature.

During the event, Annual College magazine “Indradhanush” was also released. The students who were awarded degrees included students from streams like MSc (Physics 18, Maths 83 and Computer Science 12), MA (English 05, Economics 15, History 08, Hindi 07 and Punjabi 04) and M.Com 46 students. Among the graduates, degrees were awarded to students of BSc. (Medical 20, Non-Medical 49, Economics 26, IT 32, Computer Science 32, and Biotechnology 15), BBA 28, BCom 251, BCA 75, BJMC 19, BMM 19 & BA 42 regular and evening’s classes. 

All members of teaching and non-teaching faculty expressed their deep sense of gratitude to all dignitaries, guests and students. On this occasion, principals of various colleges and schools were also present. Dr. Rajini Khanna,  College administrator, Prof Rajeev Arora, Staff Secretary, Prof Amita Sharma, Bursar, Dr. Darshandeep Singh, Vice Principal also graced the occasion with their presence.
