Apart from 92% in Bholath and 95.6 in Sultanpur Lodhi many villages have 90% vaccination
Kapurthala, May 1 (Punjab Post Bureau) – In a rare feat Kapurthala district has crossed one lakh covid vaccination mark which includes more than 70 thousand senior citizens which falls under the High risk catageory. Till today total 102876 people have been vaccinated in the district.
Two major cities of the district Bholath 92% and Sultanpur Lodhi 95.7% leads the vaccination drive alongwith many villages which have above 90% vaccination. They are Hasuwal, Tandi Ibrahimwal and Chauganwan, Nangal Lubana etc.
In Bholath, out of the total population of 45 years and above is 2354, out of which 2188 have been vaccinated which is 92%, while the population of Sultanpur Lodhi over 45 years of age is 3431, out of which 3286 have been vaccinated making it 95.7%.
Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Mrs. Deepti Uppal said that under the immunization drive which started from January 16, priority was given to cover the senior citizens and persons suffering from serious illnesses besides paying special attention to the age group of 45 to 59 years.
She said that educating the people about the benefits of immunization to contain covid has yielded meaningful results due to which the number of immunizations in the district had crossed 4500 per day.
Vaccination started on January 16 launched only at the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala and some sub-divisional hospitals, further shifted to primary health centers and health wellness centers, after which arrangements were made for village-to-village camps.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Randeep Singh said that out of total 102876 people vaccinated, 70401 senior citizens have been vaccinated. In addition,15961 people in the age group of 45 to 59 years have been vaccinated.
He said that in the beginning it was difficult to motivate people for vaccination but gradually people understood its importance and came forward for vaccination.
Deputy Commissioner also informed that in many villages of the district the vaccination for the people above 45 years of age has been increased from 90 to 95 percent. In village Lamme under Community Health Center Begowal, the population of above 45 were 413, out of which 400 have been vaccinated with the significant contribution of field staff like ANMs, social workers Panna Lal Setia etc.
