BBK DAV College for women Organizes Workshop on CPR and First Aid

Amritsar, Aug (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of Zoology of BBK DAV College for Women organized a workshop on “CPR and simple First Aid in Medical Emergencies on 4th August, 2015. This workshop was sponsored by U.G.C.(Community College Scheme) and DBT, New Delhi vide Star college  scheme. This workshop was conducted to train the students  in various life saving skills including Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other first aid measures that need to be provided in case of medical emergencies before the arrival of a medical expert.

Dr. K.K. Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, G.G.S. Medical College, Faridkot, was the resource person for this workshop. CPR is a life saving technique useful in many emergencies including heart attack or near drowning in which someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped. Dr. Gupta discussed about BSL i.e. basic life support, a level of medical care which is used for victims of life threatening illness or injuries until they can be given full medical care at a hospital and ACLS i.e. advanced Cardiac life support, which refers to a set of clinical interventions for the urgent treatment of Cardiac arrest, stroke and other life threatening medical emergencies.

The workshop was attended by the students enrolled in Diploma in Clinical Diagnostic Techniques, B.Sc (Medical) and students from department of Physical Education. The technique of CPR was demonstrated by Dr. Gupta on a Dummy. The faculty, students and Laboratory attendants were trained in proper way of administering CPR on the patients suffering from cardiac arrest. The first aid measures pertaining to the incidence of Choking & Asthma were also explained.

Principal Dr. (Mrs) Neelam Kamra, addressed the students about the significance of first aid techniques which can sustain life in medical emergencies. She motivated the students to propagate the knowledge gained from this training session amongst the society. Dr.Monika Bhardwaj, Co-ordinator of the course “Clinical Diagnostic Techniques” and DBT Star College Scheme thanked the Principal and the resource person for inculcating Life Saving Skills amongst the faculty and the students. The faculty members including Ms. Isha Babbar, Ms. Ashima Mehra, Ms. Sonal, Ms.Bhawna,.Ms. Dilpreet, Ms. Shahina, (Mrs) Gurmeet Kaur attended the workshop.
