Dav College to host 3rd “inspire” science camp

Around 250 students from various Shools of Punjab will participate

Amritsar, September 21 (Punjab post Bureau) – Department of Biotechnology, DAV College, Amritsar is organizing a 5 day DST (Department of Science and Technology), Government of India, sponsored Science Camp INSPIRE from 22nd – 26th September, 2015. It is worth to mention that the college has been able to receive the grant for INSPIRE from DST, GOI for the third time in just two years.

The objective of the camp is to attract talent in the field of science at an early stage and help building the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science and Technology System. More than 225 students from different schools from Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Batala and Amritsar are participating in this camp.

Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, DAV College Amritsar said that INSPIRE is one of the innovative Programmes developed by the Department of Science and Technology of  Govt of India. He added that science and technology plays leading role in helping India develop as the growth engine of the world. This camp will inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that would build scientific, engineering and technological skills among them.

Prof Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Department of Biotechnology, Convener of INPIRE said that the objective of organizing this Inspire Internship Camp is to reveal the joys of Innovation to the talented youth of the country to encourage them to pursue higher studies in science and choose a career in research and development. She added that there will be a wide variety of lectures and laboratory exercises related to Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics and Zoology held under supervision of eminent Scientists. Sessions will deliberate on topics like Astro-Physics, Chemistry in Daily Life, Advances in Biotechnology, Stem cell cloning, Genomics and Cancer. This camp will essentially nourish the curiosity of students in scientific world for improving well being of the Society. Vice Principal Prof H S Walia, Dr. Neeraj Gupta, Assistant Programme Coordinator and office bearers of the college Prof. SC Sachdeva, Dr. Daizy Sharma, Dr. BB Yadav were also present on the occasion.
