Khalsa University Management Thanks State Govt. for Varsity’s Bill-2016

Amritsar, Sept.  15 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The Khalsa University management today thanked the state government for passing the Khalsa University Bill-2016 in the state assembly unanimously.  The varsity authorities vowed to help the state realize its `quality higher education for all’ and reiterated the commitment to make the university focus on research and professional courses to generate best human resource. It was also cleared that 1892-established historic and iconic Khalsa College will stay as separate autonomous college from University.

In a joint statement issued here KU Chancellor Satyajit Singh Majithia, pro-chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, vice-chancellor Dr.SS Chahal and Registrar Dr.Jaswinder Singh Dhillon said the varsity was working following the ordinance issued from the office of the Governor. “The Bill regarding the setting up of Khalsa University (KU) has been unanimously passed in the state assembly yesterday. We thank the government for the move to finalize the long pending educational project’’, said Chhina.

            He said the multi-faculty, professional Khalsa University will give boost to higher education and research in this border region in the state. Extending gratitude to CM Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy CM  Sukhbir Singh Badal and Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and all members of the august house of state assembly, the management said the dream of the founding fathers of  1890 established Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) has finally been realized.

“The dream was conceived by the founding fathers and first proposal was moved as early as 1919 to set up the Khalsa University. Finally the historic decision to set up University under the KCGC which is presently re-christened as Khalsa College Charitable Society (KCCS), has been realized ’’, said Majithia. VC Dr. Chahal who convened a meeting of the top officials of the University at the campus to thank the KU senior authorities and state government, said the varsity had started rolling following the Ordinance notification.

“Now that the state assembly has cleared the Bill to the varsity, we assure the state government and the society at large to provide value based, professional and research oriented education’’, said Dr.Chahal. The state level Entrance Test for admissions to various Ph.D Programs is already slated for September 18, said he adding that applications has been received in almost all subjects including Agriculture, Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, Education, Physical Education, Languages, Sikh History, Law, Library Sciences, Medical Lab Technology and Journalism.
