“Lecturers demand promotion”

Malout, Sept. 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) – School lecturers of the malout area on Sunday held an emergency meeting and demanded promotion of eligible lecturers to the posts of principals.
The lecturers informed that about 600 posts of principals were lying vacant in government schools (373 newly upgraded and 225 others schools) across the state. The shortage of principals has adversely affected the studies and other official works in the schools for a long time, they said. Lecturers who attended the meeting include Manhor Lal, Vijay Garg, Naib Singh, Dr Haribhajan, Shivraj, Rajinder Singh Dhillon, Krishan Kumar, Khem Raj, Gurdeep Lal and Sukdeep Kaur, They informed that thought the process to promote lecturers as principals was on but was moving at snails’ pace. They demanded promotion of lecturers on quota basis (approved by the Punjab government in a cabinet meeting to 75 per cent) be implemented immediately as the number of lecturers working in department now is nearly about 18000. Apart from this, they have also demanded implementation of A.C.P which is non- functional for the last three years.
