International Seminar on “Ambedkar’s Contribution to Indian Politics and Society”

PPN1703201706Amritsar, March 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – PG Department of History, DAV College Amritsar organized One day UGC Sponsored International Seminar on “Ambedkar’s Contribution to Indian Politics and Society” Under the Aegis of Ambedkar Studies Centre today. Mr Anil Dutt Mishra, Professor Research, Rajshri Tondon, Open University Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh was the Chief Guest and Dr. Dhiraj K Nite, Associate Professor, Faculty of History Ambedkar University, New Delhi SRF (University of Johannesburg, South Africa) was the Guest of Honour during the event. Dr Raj Kumar Hans, Professor (Retd.), Department of History, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was the Keynote speaker during the event.

            In the Inaugural Session, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal DAV College and Chairman of Ambedkar Studies Centre gave the welcoming address to all the guests present. While stressing upon importance for organizing such events, he said such intellectual seminars helps scholars and students to understand the ideology of Baba Saheb. He also highlighted the contribution of Ambedkar as most rational personality in upliftment of society. He also added that it’s a proud feeling for college as it is fifth International Seminar organized by the department. While addressing the guest, Dr. Vishav Bandhu, Director, Ambedkar Studies Centre and Head, PG department of History highlighted the main purpose behind organizing such seminars is to enlighten the scholars and students about contribution of Dr. B.R Ambedkar to Indian Politics, constitutions, dalits and religion. He said that his contribution to the Dalits has been immense. He also stressed on concept of Neo- Buddhism in society. While speaking on occasion, Mr Anil Dutt Mishra congratulated department for their efforts to organize such seminars. He focused on Ambedkars political philosophy and his efforts in upliftment of dalit community in society.

After the welcoming address, Documentary based on the topic “Work is Workship” was also screened. Book named “Debating Gandhi” was released during the inaugural session by the dignitaries present. The event was conducted in two technical sessions. During the event, Research papers based on various topics such as Ambedkar as Key Architect of Indian Constitution, Ambedkar’s views on Partition, Ambedkar’s views on Caste System, Neo Bhuddhism, Poona Pact and Gandhi-Ambedkar Controversy, Mahar Satyagraha: Impact and Repercussions and Ambedkar’s Contribution towards Women Rights in India were presented by various Research Scholars. In the First Technical Session, Dr. Dhiraj K Nite, Associate Professor, Faculty of History Ambedkar University, New Delhi SRF (University of Johannesburg, South Africa), Dr Ashish Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of History, PU Chandigarh were the Chairpersons.

In the Second Technical Session, Mr. Anil Dutt Mishra, Professor Research, Rajshri Tondon, Open University Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Raj Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Dyal Singh College, New Delhi were the Chairpersons during the event. This event was organized under the supervision of Prof. Shilpi Seth. Dr. Babusha Maingi, Prof. Manjeet, Prof. Manish, Prof. Aruna, Himani, Manisha and Manpreet Kaur were also present.
