Amritsar, March 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of Human Genetics of Guru Nanak Dev University organized a special lecture on Epigenetics Control of the Genome and Its Implications for Human Diseases in the seminar hall of the Department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences.
Dr. Shiv I.S. Grewal, a distinguished investigator from National Institute of Health, USA delivered this special lecture. The session was chaired by Dr. Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Dean Life Sciences. Dr. Vasudha Sambyal, Professor of the Human Genetics welcomed the chief guest and other guests. Dr. Sanjana Mehrotra presented vote of thanks.
While talking on Epigenetics Control of the Genome and Its Implications for Human Diseases Dr. Grewal threw light on some factors that play a role in promoting inheritance thourgh phenomenon other than those which involve genes. He said that these factors thus affect the structure and functioning of the organizes. The talk was quite illuminative as it reflected on the recent findings of biological sciences which now contradict the existing established theories. The lecture focused on implication of understanding how abnormal activations of cancer genes can trigger cancer. The talk was closed by an interactive session between the guest speaker and stuents as well as faculty members.
