Connecting Children to Nature-WWQ2017 a Grand Success

Amritsar, Sept. 3 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Wild Wisdom Quiz City Challenge of Word Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-India) was held at Amritsar yesterday with participation of teams from schools from as far as Jammu, Abohar, Hoshiarpur and from the Holy City. This is a part of a countrywide exercise by the World Wide Fund for Nature, India to familiarize school going children with ecology and sensitise them towards the environment.

            This year the theme of the Quiz was Maze of the Natural World. Over 60 schools with well over 3000 registrations have been received from this region alone for WWQ2017 from Elementary & Middle schools itself. The challenge was hosted by Millennium School Amritsar yesterday & by Learning Paths School at Mohali shall host the 04Sept area challenge. This is the culmination of school level rounds held during the summer months. The top middle school team of the region shall participate at the nationals.

 The Junior school round was won by Springdale School, while DAV Public Lawrence Road stood second, Path Seekers Beas the third slot followed by Swami Sant Das Public School Jalandhar & SGDAV Public School Haripura, Abohar. Middle School round was also won by Springdale Senior School Amritsar, followed by PathSeekers Beas, Cambridge International Amritsar, Heritage School Jammu, and DAV International Jammu in that order.

Maximum participation trophy was lifted by DAV International Amritsar, while the Ms. Neeru Issar was adjudged as the Best Coordinator for WWF Projects. WWF-India Environment Education officer Puneet Watts said that the interactions with schools started in March itself and the response from children and institutions alike has been phenomenal this year.

Gunbir Singh, Chairperson, WWF-India (Punjab) expressed that Punjab has begun hosting two challenges of the elementary & middle school levels at Amritsar & Mohali to spread ecological awareness. Appreciation of nature at a young age is an essential part of growing up, and the only way to ensure sustainability of humanity. We at WWF keep this engagement going through our global celebration of Earth Hour, presentations at educational institutions, WWQ competition and a host of activities. Marking of trees at the Ram Bagh Gardens has also been a collaborative research with school children.
