Sachin Tendlkar Cricket Tournament concludes Amidst Cheers at DAV Public School

Amritsar, 30 November (Punjab Post Bureau) – The 5^th Sachin Tendulkar Cricket Tournament, that started as a tribute to the master blaster in 2013, concluded at DAV Public School , Lawrence Road , Amritsar amidst huge fan fare and cheers. The much awaited Inter – Section cricket tournament for Std IX, which promises to strengthen academics with co–curricular activities commenced on November 16, 2017. The aim of this initiative is to develop the values of team spirit, fair play , discipline , sportsmanship, Co – operation,  leadership etc among students. The matches were organised under the able guidance of the Principal, Dr. Neera Sharma and the supervision of Mrs. Anju Gupta Supervisor Std IX & X. Mr. Balwinder Singh and Mr. Manvinder Singh from the Social Science faculty of the School, meticulously organised the matches and encouraged the students for fair play.  Mr.G.S.  Bhatti from Punjabi faculty did a commendable job as the commentator for 26 matches over a period of eight days. The final match was held on 24^th Nov 2017 between IX – E and IX – K.  The students of IX – E gave a tough fight to IX – K and won the match by 56 runs. Lakshay of IX – E was declared the Man of the Match. Amidst loud cheers the glittering trophy was handed over to IX – E by the Principal Dr. Neera Sharma. Dhruv Verma of IX – G grabled the title of Man of the Series and Saksham Puri of Std IX –A bagged the title of ‘Centurian’ for completing his century in 40 balls which included 12 sixes.

Regional Director Punjab Zone – A Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school Dr.  Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College Amritsar congratulated the school for such an innovative step and said that such activities would help in the all round development of the students. They blessed the winning team of its fabulous performance.

Mrs. Anju Gupta Supervisor Std IX & X under whose supervision the whole tournament was organised, applauded the efforts of the teams and the teachers. She said that sports provide a positive outlet to the suppressed energies of the students which result in healthy development. According to her many lessons of life are learnt on the playing field.
