Amritsar, Dec. 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Folklore research academy President Ramesh Yadav & Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy Gen. Secty. Jatin Desai appreciates Pakistan government’s decision of releasing 291 Indian fishermen in two batches on 29th December, 2017 and 8th January, 2018. In a joint press statement they said that this gesture is a positive sign which strengthens the relationship between the people of the two countries. They said that it is important that the issue of arrests of Indian and Pakistani fishermen is highlighted and needs to be addressed at various levels.
They strongly appealed to the Indian government to release Pakistani fishermen languishing in Indian prisons. In order to respond to this kind gesture by reciprocating in a similar manner is important, which will not only build trust but also bring confidence to the people of both countries and also requests Indian and Pakistani governments to release the seized fishing boats, said Yadav and Desai. These fishing boats are the only source of income and livelihood of the fisher people. They also take this opportunity to request both the governments to release senior citizens, women and other civilian prisoners languishing in the prisons of both countries also.
It is notable that F.R.A & PIPFPD has been consistently pursuing with both the governments to adopt a policy of No Arrest. We hope that the suffering faced by these communities who venture out for their livelihoods is taken into consideration on humane grounds.
