Amritsar, Dec. 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Teachers of colleges affiliated to GNDU are anguish over the callous and anti- teacher and anti UGC policy adopted by GNDU. Teachers are conducting exams with utmost honesty and integrity but to their dismay Examination branch of the University has deliberately and with total mismanagement has put the exams during vacations. The winter vacation from 18-12-2017 to 04-01-2018 has no meaning for the teachers as they have been put on invigilation duties throughout the vacations. This issue of invigilation and evaluation duties during Winter Vacations is causing a lot of unrest among the teaching staff. Dr. Vinay Sophat General Secretary of PCCTU said that the UGC has also stipulated that clean nine-week vacations should be provided to the teachers working in these colleges. We have requested many times to all concerned university officials including Vice-Chancellor that for the hassle-free and smooth conduct of examinations, the vacations should start after the completion of examinations. Practical dates should be flexible. Even the UGC allows earned leaves in lieu of Duties performed during vacations. Prof. Sophat further reiterated that we are requesting the university officials to allow the teachers to have compensatory leaves in lieu of duties performed during vacations otherwise we shall resort to agitation. We have already given a call of Dharna in front of GNDU on 2nd February, 2018. However keeping the interests of students in mind we are conducting the exams and performing the duties. But we shall write to UGC and even seek legal remedy too to safeguard the interests of the teachers.
