Sri Amritsar held its 6th Convocation. Bhai Gobind Singh Longowal, President SGPC & Chancellor Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences was presided over the ceremony, Dr. Russel Franco D’Souza Head, Asia Pacific Division, UNESCO Chair in Bioethics Haifa, Melbourne Australia was Chief Guest, Dr. Geethalakshmi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University and Dr. J.S Bamrah Reader University of Manchester National Chairman, BAPIO were the Guest of Honors on this occasion.
Delivering the convocation address Dr. Russel Franco D’Souza contgraulate Management of Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research & all the students of the Institute. He said today we are going to Inagurate UNESCO Bioethical center at Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences. The accredited 3T-IBHSc bioethics training program has been designed to introduce Medical, Dental and Health Science teaching faculty of Universities and Colleges to teaching the modern Vertically Integrated Bioethics Curriculum based on the core curriculum, which reflects the 15 principals enshrined in the UNESCO’s Universal declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights (2005). It was developed by experts under the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics Haifa. The 3T-IHSc program is built to Train Teach and Transfer (Bioethics and Human Rights knowledge) Integrated Bioethics in Health Sciences.
He said the accredited bioethics course is delivered in a workshop model using a cafeteria setting, with interactive and innovative knowledge transfer methodology. The course will introduce the modern bioethics knowledge transfer technology which includes the underpinnings of neuro-cognition sciences on teaching competencies, emotional intelligence in teaching methodology for medical, dental and allied health science teaching faculty. The use of innovative teaching methodology will be demonstrated, with work shopping of a fully evaluated case-based teaching methodology, to be further used in the teaching and training in undergraduate medical education program.
The successful completion of this course for teaching faculty makes them eligible for admission to International Forum of Teachers of Bioethics Europe and offers credentialing in the ability to teach integrated bioethics in their specialty. This will accomplish the introduction of bioethics curriculum in medical dental and allied health science courses.
He profusely congratulated the fresh graduates who received their degrees and the teachers of Medical Institute. On this occasion 300 MBBS graduate and 150 MD/ MS Post Graduate degrees were conferred.
Dr. Manjit Singh Uppal Director Principal presented the progresss report of this institute and its hospital highlighting the facts that a part of MBBS course for one fifty admission already PG Degree course of MD and MS is there in Eighteen subjects with 79 annual admission and courses in B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic, M.Sc Nursing etc. He highlited the modern machines and equipments that have been put in place in the Cancer Hospital, Radiology Department, Cath Lab, Operation Theater, Blood Bank, and elsewhere in the Hospital. He Said that on average 1500 patients attend OPD everywhere and 50 major operation daily besides hundred of investigations. He narrated specially the machines like MRI, Colour, Doppler, Memography, Radio Department DSA and Echocardiography, ETO, Ventilator, Laproscopic, Endoscopy, C-RAM, Binocullar Microscope, Physiotherapy Instruments. Air Conditoned of ICU has been compeleted and arrangement of uninterrupted power supply has been made. Paediatrics Neruo Surgery is being done and estate of the art Laproscope has been made available. The Institute has been approved for post PG, six months “National Fellowship of Ocular Trauma”, also recognized by Internaitonal Society of Ocular Trauma for International recognition. Seprate 10 bed coronary care unit established in the Institute. Hospital information System has been installed and its functional.
