Amritsar, May 29 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A Seminar on Smart City Projects was held at DAV Public School ,
Lawrence Road today. It was organised by Amritsar Smart City Limited to spread awareness and seek public opinion suggestions and inputs from the view point of the stake holders. Honourable IAS Mrs. Deepti Uppal CEO Amritsar Smart City Limited was the Chief Guest of the day . Lt. Col. Manu Chaudhary, Team Leader Amritsar Smart City Limited, Mr. Balwinder Singh Advisor Amritsar Smart City Mission, Mr. Sunil from Gramin Vikas Handicrafts Women and Children Welfare Society, Mr. Amit Singh Sr. Urban Designer, National Awardee Mrs. Paramjit Kaur were among the eminent guests who graced the occasion. After the formal welcome by the Principal of the School, Dr. Neera Sharma, Mr. Balwinder Singh addressed the audience of 300 students and informed them about the Smart City Project. Under this project , three cities of Punjab – Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar have been selected in a nationwide selection process. He talked about a strategic vision for a future city with a clean an sustainable environment.
Other eminent speaker, Mr. Amit Singh Sr. Urban Designer shared his views about the role of the residents and students in making the city SMART in real sense. Talking about the problems faced by the residents and the local officials in giving shape to these projects , he added that a comprehensive development programme is underway and aims to improve liveability of the whole city. Mrs. Deepti Uppal in her address said “Students are the future adult residents of the city and thus their vision about the city is very important” . She added that the government is eager on this ambitions project which will not only improve the economic conditions and quality of life by harnessing technology but also make Amritsar a Global Smart City .She encouraged the students to give their suggestions for the development of the city. The students showed a lot of interest in the talk and came up with many smart ideas for the holy city.
Mrs. Neera Sharma the Principal of the school expressed her gratitude to Mrs. Deepti Uppal and her team for sharing futuristic ideas for the city. She added that the city was fortunate to develop under the guidance of visionaries like her. She hoped that the project gains the needed momentum and the holy city gains another adjective of being a ‘Smart City’.
