Golden Arrow Division celebrates Saragarhi Day

PPN1209201803Jalandhar, Sept. 12 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A state level function was organised to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Saragarhi, under the aegis of Golden Arrow Division, Ferozepur on 12 September 2018. The responsibility for the management of the Saragarhi Gurudwara was handed over to Golden Arrow Division by the Govt of Punjab in June 2017. The function was attended by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh and Major General JS Sandhu, GOC Golden Arrow Division and Chairman, Saragarhi Gurudwara Management Committee and several other dignitaries. The event was attended by a large gathering including Ex servicemen and War Widows. Tributes were paid to Martyrs of Saragarhi who fought gallantly for almost seven hours before all 22 soldiers breathed their last; upholding the highest tradition of the Indian Army. The event showcased the valiant soldiers of 36 SIKH (now 4 SIKH) for their sacrifice and echoed the patriotic fervor of Ferozepur, the land of Martyrs. The Army and the Civil Administration had also put up various stalls to assist the Ex servicemen, Veer Naris and civilians who came for the function.A wreath laying ceremony was also done at Barki War Memorial by the Hon’ble Chief Minister and GOC Golden Arrow Division. 

            The event culminated with felicitation of Ex servicemen and War Widows.  In his address to the gathering, the Chief Minister lauded the valiant efforts of the soldiers and exhorted everyone to emulate the 22 gallant soldiers of 36 SIKH who battled against 10,000 tribals and chose death rather than surrender in the highest traditions of Indian Army.
