Food Commission will sensitize people about the provisions of NFS Act

Special Campaign will launch soon

Chandigarh, Jan. 28 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Chairman of Punjab State Food Commission Mr. D.P Reddy said that Wheatcommission will launch the special campaign to sensitize people about the provisions of NFS Act 2013. He said that NFS Act has a special focus on the nutritional support to women and children, besides meal to pregnant women and lactating mothers during pregnancy and six months after the child birth. The Act also contains provisions for setting up of grievance redressal mechanism at District and State levels.

Mr. Reddy said that Government has notified the National Food Security Act on 10th September, 2013 with the objective to provide food and nutritional security in human life cycle. The Act provides nutritional support of up to 75% of the rural population and up to 50% of the urban population for receiving subsidized food grains under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS). Divulging further he said that the eligible persons are entitled to receive 5 Kgs of food grains per person per month at subsidized prices of Rs. 3, 2 and 1 per Kg for rice, wheat, coarse grains respectively.

Prior to this Chairman Mr. Reddy held a meeting with Mr. Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, IAS Secretary Public Relations Punjab, Mrs. Senu Duggal, Additional Director Public Relations and Brig. Harshvir Singh OSD/GOG in this regard. Mr. Gurkirat Kirpal Singh informed that his Department will launch media campaign in the leading newspapers and vernaculars to create awareness in general public about the provisions of NFS Act. It was decided that a three-four months campaign in print media shall be launched in the first phase, followed by long term media campaign on sustainable basis.
