500 delegates from India & abroad participated in National Conference of Ocular Trauma

Amritsar, Sep. 6 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The annual National Conference of Ocular Trauma is being held at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in association with Amritsar Academy of Ophthalmology and under the ages of Punjab Medical council. Eminent speaker all across India and abroad has gathered to share the experiences. Academic and scientific session started early in the morning.

About 500 delegates from India and abroad were participated in this scientific feast despite heavy rains from last two days. Inauguration of National Conference was held by Dr. Gurinder Singh Grewal, President, of Punjab Medical Council, who stressed the need of timely intervention to prevent damage to the eyes because of trauma, also he stressed for the ethical medical practices.

Welcome address was delivered by Dr Geeta Sharma, Director Principal Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences Vallah, Sri Amritsar. S. Joginder Singh and Dr AP Singh extend their warm welcome to all the delegates.

Dr. Quresh Maskati President All India Opthalmological Society deliver his presidential address and highlighted the Amplitude of blindness because of Diabetes and need of interventions to control this cause, also he stressed upon the need to become the members of AIOS.

In today’s session 35 research were presented on various fields of Ocular Trauma. Dr. M S. Boparai Air Vice Marshal retired from New Delhi and Dr H.S Dua from Nottingham University Nottingham England delivered key note address. On this occasion Ocular Trauma Society of India started a award in the name of Dr. Hari Mohan Oration Award. The Ist Dr. Hari Mohan Oration Award has been awarded to   Dr. H.S. Dua for his pioneer work to invent new layer in Cornea. Dr. H.S. Dua is the Ist Indian & Ist Sikh Punjabi to get this award.

Dr J.S Thind, Dr D.Ramamurthy from Chennai, Dr P.Bhasin, Dr Lalit Verma shared their experiences on Traumatic Cataract. Dr A.K Grover from New Delhi explained the role of lid and lid repair in road side accidents. Dr Shakeen Singh the chief organizer and Dr Baljit Singh Dhillon pattern of Amritsar Academy of ophthalmology stressed then need of meticulous need of ocular trauma and at the same time discussed the preventive measures to avoid road side accident in ocular trauma. They also emphasized the role of education to masses regarding prevention and early treatment. Dr Raman Mittal organizing secretary explained the role of rehabilitation in ocular trauma and fine details about ocular-plasty.

Prominent among present were Padam Shri Dr Daljit Singh, Dr Rajbir Singh, Dr Ravijit Singh  Dr B. Shukla, Dr DK Mehta, Dr Mrs and Mr Kim (Madurai), Dr Nirmal Fredrik (Chennai), Brig. JKS Parihar (Arned forces New Delhi), Dr SM Bhatti (Principal CMC Ludhiana), Dr J Sinha (AIIMS) Dr Morekar (Mumbai), Dr JS Chahal, Dr karamjit Singh, Dr Santosh Bide (Pune), Dr Sheikh Sajjad Ahmed (SriNagar), Dr Jayant Kumar Das, Dr Ashok Rathi, Dr RS Chouhan(Rohtak). All the faculty members from various specialties of the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences Vallah, Amritsar were present on the occasion.

At the end of the day a general body meeting was held where it has been decided to send the recommendations regarding Ocular Trauma to the Govt. of India and to various state governments.
