63rd Annual Award Presentation Function Held at DAV College

 360 Students awarded for Academic Excellence & Co-curricular Activities

Amritsar, April 16 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Around 360 Students were awarded prizes and certificates of merits for PUNJ1604201906their academic excellence and other curriculum performances at DAV College on the occasion of 63rd Annual Award Presentation Function held today. The students were also awarded prizes for their extra-ordinary performance in sports, CCA, NCC, NSS and other social activities. Students of NCC were awarded College Color award for their spectacular performance during the academic session.

 `Navdeep Singh Suri IFS (Ambassador of India to the UAE) was the chief guest and Dr. Harwinder Singh Bhalla, Deputy DPI (Colleges) Dept of Higher Education Govt of Punjab was the guest of honour during the occasion. Besides Advocate Sudershan Kapoor Chairman Local Managing Committee was also present during the occasion.

The event began with Academic Procession in which the chief guests were accorded with warm welcome by Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal, Dr. Darshandeep Arora Vice Principal, Prof. G.S Sidhu Registrar, Prof. Meenu Aggarwal Administrator, Dr. Parveen Thakur Bursar and Prof. Rajiv Arora Staff Secretary and other staff members of the college. The event proceeded with lighting of Deep shikha and DAV Anthem.

            While highlighting the achievements of the college, Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that six science departments of college received a grant of Rs 123.00 lakhs by Ministry of Science and technology for strengthening of life science and biotechnology education and training under Star College Scheme. He further added that the college has always played an important role in providing better education facilities to students. Besides it, he congratulated all the prize winners for setting new standards in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.

While talking about achievements of Mr Navdeep Singh Suri, he said that Mr Suri joined Indian Foreign services in 1983 and served in India’s diplomatic missions in Cairo, Damascus, Washington, Daers Salaam, London and as India’s Consul General in Johannesburg. He was India’s High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to Egypt prior to his current position. While briefing about accomplishments of Dr H.S Bhalla, he said that he has vast experience of 30 years in teaching and he has been given the additional Charge of Liaison Officer, Indian Institute of Mangement, Amritsar in 2015 and he is also a member of NAAC Team, New Delhi and has also received more than thirty appreciations from different states’ and national Institues for his commendable works.

Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar also read the annual report of the session 2018-19 of the college and also released college News bulletin “Campus Vibes” during the event.

 While speaking on occasion, Navdeep Singh Suri alumni of DAV College who has completed his BA degree in 1979 said that today it is very proud moment for him to be invited as guest in his own institution after 40 years to present awards for academic excellence to the prize winners. He appreciated DAV College for its flexibility and easy teaching methodology which works as foundation for understanding the diverse needs of individuals and sections of the society. He stressed upon the importance of creativity and intellect in ones life. He also said that students should know how to recognize opportunities where ever they go in order to make their life secure in fast changing era. At last he congratulated the awardees and blessed them for their bright future.

While speaking on occasion, Dr. H.S Bhalla appreciated the efforts of students and focused on importance of skill development, innovation, capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit that will be helpful in overall growth and development of the youth.  He further talked about the entire dedication of DAV Team in upbringing of students and called DAV as Brand Institution which is continuously providing better education and employment facilities to its students.

During the function, nearly 360 students were awarded prizes among which various students were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medal for their achievements in the field of academics, NCC, NSS and students and teachers were awarded for donating blood at various camps. On the occasion, 3 College colours were given to students of the college for their best performance during the session.                

            The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Rajiv Arora, Secretary Staff Council. The principals of various colleges and schools, teaching members of the college also graced the occasion with their presence.
